Two tennis rackets forming a heart around a tennis ball

Friday nights · Cathedral City

love means something?

TENNIS0
FRIDAYS

In tennis, love means nothing. Here, it means something.

A Friday-night mixer where you actually share an interest. Pick who you want to meet, play doubles as double dates, and trade real questions at every changeover.

Never held a racket? Most people here haven't — beginners keep it to easy rallies, no score. Play seriously? Some nights we set up full sets, tiebreakers, even singles — whatever the group's up for. You're never the worst one out there, and never carrying anyone.

First mixer · targeting Fri, Nov 20 6:30 check-in · 7–9 PM CC Tennis Club, Cathedral City Up to 24 players · 6 courts

The date locks in once enough players are on the waitlist — the list hears first.

The idea

Doubles. As double dates.

Getting people out on a Friday is hard — unless they were heading out to meet someone anyway. So why not meet someone you already have something in common with?

You set your preferences and browse who's coming, chat a little, and pick a few people you'd actually like to meet. We only show you people you're compatible with, then put you on court — call it matchmaking, squared. At every changeover, a card gives you something better to talk about than the weather.

No awkward bar small talk. Just a game, a shared interest, and a reason to keep playing.

How a match actually works

Four daters, one court. You team up with a match you chose and play another couple who chose each other — so you get to know your partner and the two across the net, who are on a date too.

Your preferences come first. We match you with and against people who fit what you're looking for and play near your level, so every court feels right. The matching logic stays behind the scenes — you just show up and play.

No one stands alone. If your match can't make it, you can fill in for another foursome that needs a fourth, or just jump in with whoever wants to play. Everyone who shows up plays.

It's a group date — everyone connects. Not a romantic match? Maybe a tennis one, or someone you'd set a friend up with.

How it works

Three steps, one Friday.

1

Pick a few people

No endless feed, no algorithm — browse who's coming the week of, chat a little, and choose who you'll actually meet on court. You see them in person within days, not pen-pal limbo. (Just a web link the week of — nothing to download.)

2

Play at your level

Tell us your tennis level at signup — never-played to league player — and we set up balanced, fun matchups. Beginners keep it casual and no-score; 3.0+ players can play real points, full sets, or tiebreakers. You're never the worst one out there, and never carrying anyone.

3

Talk at the changeover

A changeover is just the short break when you swap sides — about every ten minutes. Each one, a question card turns the rally into a real conversation. Afterward you pick, privately, how you'd connect with each person — romantic, tennis & friends, or pass. See Safety.

A night, start to finish

What actually happens for 2½ hours.

No mystery, no open-ended commitment. Here's the whole night.

6:30 PM

Check-in & bands

Grab water, pick your wristbands, meet your first match.

7:00 PM

First short set

Doubles vs. another couple. Changeover questions every two games.

7:00–9:00

A few rounds

New court, new people each round, near your level. Leave anytime.

9:00+

Stay & socialize

Hydrate, snack, play group question games — turn it into a dinner (we'll order in) if you're feeling it. Winter nights, there's a fire.

Up to 24 players a night across 6 courts, matched by your preferences and play level — so every pairing makes sense. You can step off at any point; nobody's trapped.

The changeover deck

The questions are the real ones.

A pool with the depth of the famous "36 questions" study — drawn one per changeover, escalating across the three sets you play. Warm to start, brave by the end.

Set I
What would make today a perfect day for you?
Set II
Is there something you've dreamed of doing for a long time — and why haven't you?
Set III
Tell the person across the net one thing you already like about them.

Modeled on the "36 questions that lead to love." We keep the depth — and skip the promise.

Find your people

Everyone's welcome on this court.

Your matches come from your private in-app preferences — so you never have to wear who-you're-into on your wrist. The visible bands below are about availability, and they're yours to choose, swap, or skip all night.

What you're here for — visible & optional
Just here to play Open & looking Casual — see what happens
Who you're open to — private by default

Handled in-app so it powers matching without putting your orientation on display. Prefer a visible signal? It's an opt-in discreet charm, never a public billboard — whoever you're hoping to meet: women, men, nonbinary folks, or everyone. All orientations and relationship styles welcome, monogamous to poly-friendly.

Safety & how it's run

Welcome is a vibe. This is the system.

Real names only

You register with your real name and a profile photo and agree to our Code of Conduct and waiver — no anonymous profiles, no walk-ins. (ID verification added as we grow.)

Zack runs every night

I'm there every week — playing, overseeing, and on hand for any question or concern. There's always someone to find.

A discreet way out

Something's off? Find Zack, or quietly text the host number you're given at check-in, and we'll rotate you away — no scene. Harassment or ignoring a "no" means removed that night and not invited back.

Mutual-opt-in, like a dating app

After the night you choose how you'd connect with each person — romantic, tennis & friends, or pass. Last names and numbers are shared only when you both pick something mutual, never as a public ask at the net.

Read our Code of Conduct, Privacy Policy, and event waiver. Your info is never sold, and your preferences are visible only to your matches.

Good to know

The details.

What's it cost?

$25 per person — court time and the question deck. Racket rental is $5 if you need one. Joining the waitlist is free with no commitment.

Never played?

Most people here haven't. Beginners keep it casual and no-score, and with a little advance notice you can arrange a coach to get you started. This is about meeting people, not your serve.

Already play seriously?

Tell us your NTRP at signup — it just helps us set up balanced, fun matchups. Stronger players can play full sets, tiebreakers, even singles when the group's up for it. You won't be carrying anyone.

Who's it for?

Singles 21 and up — every age, all orientations, all relationship styles. We match you with compatible people based on the preferences you set, so the night fits who you are.

What do I bring?

Proper non-marking tennis shoes (court shoes — not running shoes, which scuff the courts). Bring a racket or rent one for $5. CC Tennis Club, Cathedral City; free parking on site.

What if my match no-shows?

No problem — fill in for another foursome that needs a fourth, or just jump in with whoever wants to play. Everyone who shows up gets on a court.

Started by Zack Ballantine — a Coachella Valley local who got tired of bad Friday nights and figured the best way to meet someone is over something you both actually enjoy. Running our first mixers at CC Tennis Club this fall, kept small on purpose. Questions? hello@lovemeanssomething.com.
